Maligaon, June 21 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway, in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram and Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, organised a tree plantation, beautification and cleanliness drive at Sairang Railway Station recently.
The initiative was aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, improving passenger amenities, and encouraging community participation. Activities included tree plantation, flower garden development and a cleanliness campaign within and around the station premises.
As part of the programme, the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram provided 50 April tree saplings and 50 Chawnpui tree saplings for plantation. According to the organisers, the plantations are expected to enhance green cover, improve the local environment, support biodiversity and create a more pleasant atmosphere for passengers, railway staff and nearby residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Clean & Green Revolution Mizoram, Lalmalsawmi, said the initiative is part of a broader vision to transform Sairang Railway Station into one of the cleanest and greenest stations in the country. She also acknowledged the support extended by NFR and the state government in undertaking beautification measures at the station.
The programme was attended by officials including Conservator (Planning), Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Mizoram Agni Mitra, Chairman of Zo Highways and Agriculture Development Company Limited JK Dawngzuala, along with senior officials of the Lumding Division of NFR.
