DRDA Mon to conduct Intensive Farming Activities Initiative

Mon, May 10 (MExN): The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Mon with the technical support of the District Horticulture Office (DHO) Mon, has decided to take up Intensive Farming Activity Initiative (IFAI) in the neighbouring villages around Mon Town through the intervention of the Students' Union led by the Konyak Students' Union (KSU).

This initiative is to blend the traditional method of cultivation with the modern farming techniques and know-how to make local cultivator a producer, earner and winner, a press release from the DRDA Mon stated on Sunday.

Under this initiative, the focus is to introduce highly nutritional local food items to the market, and also educate and introduce the idea of marketing to the villagers.

The COVID-19 crisis makes it more opportune to explore and invest in the limitless agri-business prospects of the district, it stated. This initiative will be extended to other sub- divisions in phases, it added.

The DRDA Mon is also further considering approaching the state government for organic certification of agri-products of Mon district so that the farmers of the district get the maximum benefits out of their hard labour.

On May 8, launching the Intensive Farming Activities Initiative (IFAI) at DRDA Mon, Wennyei Konyak, Project Director, DRDA Mon, handed over some seeds through the Konyak Students' Union to be distributed to the farmers.
