Driving Drunk? Dimapur Police has ‘sobering’ antidote

Planning a night out with friends over drinks?  Tag along a designated driver if you plan to get under the ‘influence.’


For the Dimapur Police has ‘sobering’ antidote for those driving under DUI in the form of fine or imprisonment for first ‘dose’ and enhanced penalty or imprisonment for subsequent ‘doses.’ 

 


According to an update on its official Facebook page on January 8 under the headline, the Dimapur Police has penalised a total of 22 drivers under relevant sections of Motor Vehicles Act for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol at different locations in Dimapur in the past few days. 

 


Under the headline ‘Checking on Drunken Driving,’ the police also informed that such checking will continue at regular intervals.

 


With hashtag “Please Don't Drink & Drive” and “Your Safety Is Our Concern,” it further cautioned that “drunken driving will attract enhanced penalty under the amended MV Act.” 

 


“For first offence, fine upto Rs 10, 000 & or imprisonment upto 6 months and for second offence with a fine upto Rs 15000 & or imprisonment upto 2 years,” the police added.
