DTCC Zbto deliberates on tobacco awareness

Zunheboto, October 26 (MExN): District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Zunheboto held its DLCC meeting at DC conference hall, Zunheboto on October 23. The meeting was chaired by Peter Lichamo, Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto.


A press release from CMO office Zunheboto district media officer, Shekho Sophie stated that Dr K Akaho Sema, Deputy CMO cum Nodal Officer, NTCP briefed about the harmful use of tobacco. He said that tobacco consumption affects the heart, liver and lungs. Dr Sema also highlighted about the various health effects of using tobacco and elaborated about the risk factor and consequences of tobacco use.


He said that one can set good example and live a normal and better life “once we abstain from using tobacco.” He motivated the committee members to create more awareness. 


Dr Esther Ngullie, Dental Surgeon, DH, Zunheboto highlighted about the activities carried out in the district. So far, DTCC has given awareness programmes in 10 schools covering 1940 students and one community level awareness programme in the month of September.


The house had an open discussion where tobacco free zone in government offices and public institutions were discussed. The meeting also elaborated about more awareness programme, enforcement drive and penalty to be taken for repeated offences regarding selling of tobacco products. Representative from ANPSA – Zunheboto unit shared of positive outcomes after awareness programme conducted in schools.


Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Esther Ngullie, Dental Surgeon, District Hospital, Zunheboto. The meeting was attended by DC, SP, ADC,Dy. CMO, Principal, Government College, Principal, GHSS, ZAPO, STH, Church Leaders, DB's, ANPSA, Dental Surgeon, DH, and medical staff.
