ECS conducts ‘Care Day’ for elderly in Longpang PHC

Tuensang, March 19 (MExN): ‘Care Day’ for the elderly was organised by Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS), Tuensang at the ‘House of Hope’ wellness centre in Longpang PHC on March 18. 

The health event was organized to address the health issues and challenges faced by the aged population in Hakchang village. The target population was above 60 years of age and 55 people availed the service. Screening for hypertension revealed 23 out of 55 attendees to be hypertensive. 

Medical officer highlighted on the concept of Health & Wellness Centre-as a comprehensive care of ‘physical, mental, social’ dimension of health. Topics on common communicable diseases, chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, COPD, arthritis, eye ailments, mental wellbeing that is prevalent in the village with special emphasis on preventive measure and care were discussed. 

In view of currently trending pandemic COVID-19, mode of infection, symptoms with special focus on prevention were discussed-proper hand hygiene, cough etiquette, self-quarantine as the need of the hour, Dr Noksen stated in a press release. 

During the interactive session, the attendees cleared the myths relating to health care, challenges they encounter to follow the healthy practices. Practical demonstration of hand washing technique and oral hygiene were given. 
Free medicine was also distributed after the event.
