EDCs formed for 20 villages around Doyang Reservoir

Newly formed EDCs along with the Wokha forest department officials after the programme in Wokha on February 12.

 

Wokha, February 13 (MExN): Wokha Forest Division and Doyang Plantation Division jointly organized a programme at the Community Hall, Forest Colony, Wokha on February 12. 


The programme was held on Local Community to Conservation and formation of Eco-Development Committees (EDCs) with regard to Doyang Reservoir Wetland.


Over hundred participants from 20 villages around Doyang Reservoir attended the programme and for which, EDCs were formed for all 20 villages, a press release received here, stated.


In her speech, Zuthunglo Patton, IFS, DFO, Wokha spoke about the role and importance of wetlands as well as the threats that wetlands face due to developmental activities. She also highlighted the responsibilities as citizens, especially the newly formed EDCs towards maintaining and improving the health of wetlands. 


Chisayi, IFS, DFO, Doyang Plantation Division briefed the villagers about the objectives, implementation and expected outcome of the Doyang Reservoir Wetland Project. He also discussed the various activities that would be implemented in these villages. 


The program was chaired by Lansothung Lotha, Range Forest Officer, Baghty Range. He spoke on the role of the Wetland Mitras as well as the role of the EDCs and impressed that they are now the ambassadors for the well-being of Doyang wetland and the successful implementation of the project. Tokiho, RFO, Doyang Beat proposed the vote of thanks.
