Engineering fraternity in Nagaland today celebrated 51st Engineers’ Day under the theme “Digital Transformation: A new industrial revolution” and vow to work with efficiency and dedication for all round infrastructure development of the country.

Through this Engineers’ Day, the engineers reached out to the less privilege children in Kohima by visiting Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home and Bright Morning Star Children Home after the main function.

They interacted with the children and extended cash including eatable items.

Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Services Association (FONSESA) president Er. Yhusinlo Tep called upon the engineering fraternity to rededicate themselves and work towards excellence for the benefit of the country.

September 15 is celebrated every year in India as Engineers’ Day to commemorate the birthday of the legendary engineer M. Visvesvaraya (1861-1962).

Internationally recognised for his genius in harnessing water resources, Visvesvaraya was responsible for successful design and construction of several river dams, bridges and implementing irrigation and drinking water schemes all over India.

Addressing the gathering at NPWD conference hall, Er. Chanbemo Lotha, chief information commissioner Nagaland, called upon engineers to follow the footsteps of Visvesvaraya in carrying out their assigned duties and in serving the people.

He said that engineers are the backbone for all round infrastructure development of the country or a state.

He added that engineers were recognized as the cream of the society and highly respected by the general public and also by the intellectual elites in the past.

Asking the engineers to introspect themselves in what position there are in now, he said “We should examine our actions as to whether we deserved to be recognized as the cream of the society. We have to work hard with honesty, dedication with a clear vision and targets to earn the name.”

He maintained that the economy of the country or a state depends on the infrastructure on which the responsibility lies with the engineers.

“The failures on our part for which the jobs are assigned will bring colossal failures to the country or state which in turn will bring misery to the common people and we will be accountable to it. Our primary focus of attention should be achieving targets for the jobs which will benefit the people and the future generations in which we are also included,” he said adding that our focus also should be for the welfare of future generations where we should not let them suffer due to our failures.

Lotha said that the growth of economy through infrastructure development offered by the government through many conceptual policies and programmes depend entirely on the achievements made by the Engineers with proper implementation and direction.

Er.Renilo Nuh, vice president Indian Engineers Federation (INDEF) Northeastern Region said the function of engineers and technocrats in nation building since independence has been immense in spheres of infrastructure development, quality life and economic progress.

He challenged engineers to take FONSESA to greater heights and make engineering fraternity stronger and united. FONSESA senior most member Er. Lanu Toy and representative from 15th BRTF also exhorted the gathering.

The function was chaired by Er. Limanaro, vice president FONSESA while vote of thanks was proposed by Association of Public Health Engineers Nagaland president Er. P. Khetoi Awomi.
