Kiphire | January 25
Normal life was paralyzed in four districts of the state as an indefinite agitation called by the Eastern Naga Student Federation (ENSF) started today concerning the issue of posting and instating teachers in the district Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng. The ENSF is agitating against what it says is the state government’s failure to implement five demands “accepted in principal” by the state earlier.
Addressing a public meeting this morning at the police point in Kiphire town a leader of the ENSF said ‘we are glad that the government of Nagaland has come up with new teachers recruitment policy in the year 2007 but the ENSF asked the government to relax taking into consideration of the condition of eastern Naga people and the government has relaxed 10 years for eastern people in the year 2009 from new teachers recruitment policy criteria.’
In reaction, the ENSF leaders said, the organization made five demands for which the government of Nagaland “accepted in principle” on August 14, 2011. The ENSF leaders are lamenting that it has not been implemented so far. The United Sangtam Students’ Conference has also restricted vehicular movement of government vehicles during the bandh, abstaining from Republic Day and forcing all establishments “except law and order,” medical and the Media. The chief guest for the 63rd Republic day celebration for Kiphire, Minister for Forest, MC Konyak, was reportedly ‘sent back’ from the Kiphire border earlier. So far there has not been any untoward incident reported till the filing of this report.
Also, a government letter received here today said four VVIPs namely Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Keyaneilie Peseyie, Minister for Agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry, Minister for Forest & Environment MC Konyak and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport & Mechanical P Dako Phom, “could not reach” their destinations due to blockade enforced by the ENSF. The government leaders were assigned to unfurl the national flag at Tuensang, Kiphire, Mon and Longleng on the occasion of Republic Day. In this regard, the state government has issued instructions to the respective deputy commissioners of the four districts to unfurl the national flag and read out the Governor’s Message.
