WCH holds Community Business Meet 2026 in Chümoukedima
Chümoukedima, November 1 (MExN): The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) on Saturday organised the Community Business Meet 2026 at Mission Centre, Western Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (WCBCC), Kozabe, in Chümoukedima district, with a call for economic self-reliance and entrepreneurship among the community.
The event, held under the theme “Economic Self-Reliance and Entrepreneurship,” was hosted by Kudecho Khamo, MLA and Advisor, Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD), Government of Nagaland, the WCH said in a press release.
Addressing the gathering, Khamo emphasised that integrity, honesty and respect for customers must form the foundation of every successful business enterprise, and urged aspiring entrepreneurs to conduct proper market research, identify gaps and unmet needs, and make informed decisions before venturing into a trade.
He stressed that entrepreneurship should not be driven solely by profit but must be guided by ethical practices and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction, saying trust and integrity in business dealings were essential for long-term credibility and sustainable growth.
Khamo noted that the Chakhesang community was known for its honesty, bravery, hard work and integrity, and urged the people to translate these qualities into economic opportunities, harnessing the community's inherent strengths and human resources to promote business.
Pointing to the growing presence of Chakhesang people in vegetable vending and thrift businesses in Kohima, as well as the emergence of young entrepreneurs, he encouraged them to build on existing ventures and explore new opportunities.
Cautioning poverty and backwardness could become serious challenges unless the community pursued social reforms, the MLA called for a shift away from dependence on leaders and the expectation that others would create opportunities, maintaining that individuals must take responsibility for their own economic well-being.
He stressed the importance of financial literacy, proper planning and specialisation, and called for stronger business partnerships within the community to pool resources, knowledge and capabilities. Noting that the world had become increasingly competitive, he urged the community to preserve its traditional and cultural values alongside Christian faith.
Khamo said the future of the Chakhesang community should not depend solely on government employment, citing limited land holdings as one of the challenges, and urged people in the Western Chakhesang area to take the lead in transforming the community's resources, human potential and traditional strengths into viable business ventures. He maintained that money alone could not sustain a business, and that the ability to think and the willingness to work constituted the real capital.
The inaugural session was chaired by Lhikhro Kreo, Press Secretary, WCH, with the invocation prayer pronounced by Rev Sevie Koza, Pastor, CRC Soudzulhou. The welcome address was delivered by Lhoupe Koza, Chairman, Kozabe Village, followed by the summit perspective presented by Yetshuli Ngatsi, President, WCH.
A plenary session on “Interaction and Way Forward” was moderated by Elizabeth Dozo Semp, Principal, Great Commission Higher Secondary School, and Elijah Pfuno, Entrepreneur and Social Worker. The panelists comprised Vepozo Dozo, Azolo Nuh, Akho Kezo and Werite Kevichusa. The discussion focused on sharing entrepreneurial experiences, exploring collaboration and partnership opportunities, identifying key challenges, strengthening community business networking and developing a future-oriented action plan.
A notable feature of the meet was the introduction of “Bubble Soft,” a homemade, chemical-free soap venture, by Sapralu Nyekha, Joint Secretary of the Western Chakhesang Mother's Association. Presented as a family venture, the initiative offered a practical example of grassroots entrepreneurship and the potential of locally developed products.
The programme concluded with a summary of proceedings and a vote of thanks by the rapporteur, followed by the valedictory prayer pronounced by Neizo Koza, Pastor, CBC Kozabe.
The meet adopted two resolutions - revitalising the Western Chakhesang Business Association and conducting a Business Summit as an annual event.
