Zunheboto, November 5 (MExN): The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) of Nagaland University (NU) organized a programme titled “Awareness on equal opportunity” on November 4 at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, headquarters Lumami. The programme was chaired by Dipika Paul, Assistant Professor.

PRO, NU, Lumami in a press release stated welcome address was delivered by Professor CR Deb, Advisor-cum-Chairman, EOC, while Alice Pongener, Member Secretary, EOC presented a brief note on the Cell.

Among others, they shared about the mandate of the EOC, while also elaborating on the activities to be taken up by the Cell.

Short speeches were delivered by Dr Abemo, Registrar, Professor MK Sinha and Professor SK Chaturvedi. Dr Abemo congratulated the Cell and urged everyone concerned to take the lead in realizing the goal of equal opportunity in a country which is well-known for its diversity.

Professor MK Sinha asserted that even in the 21st century, the world has not become egalitarian. Discrimination remains rampant be it in the economic sphere, political arena or social environment. Professor Chaturvedi dwelt on MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) as providing an equal opportunity for everyone with an interest in acquiring knowledge in any field.

In his speech, Professor Lal, Vice-Chancellor of NU while appreciating the Cell, highlighted the Theory of Natural Selection, which entailed struggle for existence and survival of the fittest. He hoped that the EOC of the University will be the cementing force for ensuring that constitutional provisions, in this regard, are safeguarded.

He also pointed out that it is through the reservation policy that “we are all able to sit at par with the others in a heterogeneous society.” The programme came to a close with words of gratitude by Dr Anthony V Richa, Deputy Registrar.
