Sanitary pads were distributed to students with help of women helpline Dimapur (Lanuila) and Noklak Police.

Noklak, November 15 (MExN): With the motto, ‘my periods: my pride’, a sanitary pad making unit was inaugurated on Monday by SP Noklak, Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS at Noklak in coordination with Noklak Police, National Innovation Foundation, Khiamniungan Women Weaving and Industrial Cooperative Society Ltd and IAH Noklak.
H Chongtei, Women Secretary, KBCA said that the periods in girl’s life mark the new beginning of adolescence and hence, every stigma attached to periods should be avoided. She also said that hygiene practice is most important to have healthy and long life.
Dr Meyachungla Jamir, IAH, Noklak explained the reproductive cycle of humans and how shedding of endometrial lining leads to periods. She asked the girl student to change the sanitary pads in 4 to 6 hours, to keep the private parts clean, and to sundry the daily use clothes and asked to maintain a chart of the days and maintain a proper cycle of periods of 28 to 30 days. She explained that waste management of the sanitary pads is very important and therefore, incineration like proper methods can be used.
SP Noklak, Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS reiterated that stigma due to periods should not be there rather everyone should take pride in womanhood. She insisted not to miss the school classes or other works if someone has periods as it results in loss of studies or work wages respectively, rather proper use of sanitary pads can help in all these.
She also spoke on cyber crimes, pornography and cyber bullying issues and asked everyone to use social media very carefully and in responsible manner. They can approach nearby police station for help in said cases, she added.
Vote of thanks was given by Newkhai, Chairperson of the Khiamniungan women weaving and industrial cooperative society Ltd. She gave special thanks to Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS and NIF for provision of machines and the sanitary pads making unit and Lusop for installation of the machines after taking training from ECS Tuensang. She stated that these machines will help in switching thousands of sanitary pads in one go and hence can help in providing entrepreneurship to weaving society women and healthy womanhood simultaneously.
