Excise dept conducts 309 raids, books 175 persons

DIMAPUR, MARCH 26 (MExN): As part of the Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) measures ahead of elections, the Nagaland State Excise Department conducted a total of 309 raids across the state during the period between March 12 and March 25. 

A total of 175 persons were booked under relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989 and D&C Act 1940.

This was informed in a press note from the Nagaland Commissioner of Excise, Tarep Imchen. The department said that during the enforcement exercise, 2078  litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were seized having a net worth of Rs. 7,27,394 in terms of street value. In addition, 8033 litres of country liquor with net street value Rs. 8,83,630 was also destroyed on the spot from various location, the department stated. 

Further, 425 bottles of Codeine based cough syrup were also recovered during the frisking process.

Fine amount realised from compounding the liquor offence was Rs. 1,87,500. 

“In anticipation of increased liquor inflow during the Election process, security checks and measures have been raised and tightened across various strategic points in an effort to prevent suspected movement of all illegal consignment at both intra and interstate level,” the department informed.
