FAC holds national seminar on ‘Gender Equality: In Praxis’

Mokokchung, March 16 (MExN): English Department of Fazl Ali College organized a national seminar on ‘Gender Equality: In Praxis’ to address issues on gender and their realization in real time and space on March 12.
The seminar keynote speaker was Dr Watimongla Pongener, former HoD of English, FAC, who explicated the challenges that gendered attitudes pose in all societies. She remarked that gender is everywhere whereas equality is not.
Altogether 25 papers were presented from researchers around the country. While some presented critiques of auxiliary powers, ethical equity, representation of women, issues of identity and transcending stereotypes from their readings of select novels, some presenters from Nagaland focused on Naga women in Church administration and traditional political institutions as well as impediments in empowering women. Papers were also presented on semiotic analysis and cultural grammar of gender relations and representations.
The moderators of the three technical sessions were Tiarenla, Associate Professor, FAC (Philosophy), Lipokrenla, Assistant Professor (Political Science) Zunheboto Government College & Kevezai Tureng, Asst Prof (Philosophy) FAC.
The rapporteurs were Dr Bendanginla, Asst. Prof., (Philosophy), Dr L Imlinichet Imchen, Asst Prof (Economics) and Dr ZiuziuIheilung, Asst Prof (Functional English).
The valedictory programme was chaired by Dr Temjennaro, Asst Prof (Education) and the seminar was rounded off with participant’s feedback from Moameren Pongen, Research Scholar (Political Science) NU, Lumami and vote of thanks from the Secretary, Organising Committee, Bendangsenla, Asst Prof, Department of English.
The seminar concluded successfully with discussion and interaction among the participants.
