A farmer plants vegetables at an already harvested terrace paddy field at Chungtia village under Mokokchung district on January 17. A majority of the Chungtia village community has already abandoned jhum cultivation about 3-4 years and has adopted terrace cultivation keeping in mind the ecological hazards of jhumming and better returns which the latter form of cultivation provides. During terrace cultivation off season, the community engages itself in other agricultural products such as cucumber, chilly, lady finger, tomato, green leaves etc. (Morung Photo)
