Fazl Ali College bids farewell to outgoing staff

Mokokchung, December 8 (MExN): Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung hosted a farewell programme on December 7 for Dr Watimongla Pongener, Associate Professor in the Department of English, who retired after 35 years of service in the College.
T Allong Tzudir, Principal said in his speech that the officer was a sincere and dedicated teacher who contributed immensely in many aspects of the functioning of the college. Dr Lanurenla, Head of the Dept of English referred to her as one with an ‘encyclopaedic mind’ and a person known for being a generous donor for prizes in various College programs.
Video messages from her former colleagues Kuholi Chishi,(former Director of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, Dr Chubatola Aier, Principal, C-Edge College, Dimapur, Ngangshikokba Walling,(former Principal, Dimapur Government College, Limatola Zulu, former Vice Principal, FAC and Helen Jamir, Principal, Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire as well as a poem from her student Chubasenla, (BA 4th Sem) were presented.
Speeches were presented on behalf of the Fazl Ali College Teachers Association by Dr Bendangtemjen, Vice President and Tongzuk, HA on behalf of the non-teaching staff.
Dr Watimongla in her speech encouraged the teaching faculty to keep on being a teacher, a transmitter of knowledge as well as a learner and to teach taking students’ perspectives into consideration. She also said that it was her love for reading and learning for which she declined the offer of principal in 2017. The retiring officer also announced an endowment fund of Rs 2.5 lakhs to fund awards for toppers in English Honours from the College in the University Exams.
An inter-departmental seminar was also held after the farewell programme where Dr. L. Imlinichet Imchen, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, presented a paper on the topic, “Perspectives on Economic Development: An Indian Narrative”. The presentation covered the positive and negative aspects of the developmental policies initiated and implemented in India since 1991 and pointed out the need for an inclusive approach in policy making.
