Dimapur, NOV 14 (MExN): Reben Regon Kachari of Gulpari District has been alleged to have been killed by the 19th battalion of the FGN’s Eastern Command led by Commander Yenglise. Accusing the FGN of this act, a joint council of the Sotokur Village and the Y Aunru Village in a release made available today vehemently condemned the killing while informing that the deceased was only a labourer who was engaged in constructing a building between Tuensang Town and Setokur Village. The release said Reben was “arrested by the gang” on November 9 and brought to the village. The village council members reportedly requested the FGN members to release the abducted person from their captivity and asked them to hand over the mentioned person to the council. However, the FGN members have been said to have refused to comply with the request despite repeated pleas. “They took him to the jungle and shot him dead in the village’s vicinity,” the release said.
Terming the “insane act” committed by the cadres as a direct insult to the villagers, the joint council had decided in its meeting held earlier that if any faction or group comes within the jurisdiction of the two villages in the near future, they would not cooperate with the particular group or faction. The joint council also resolved not to pay any taxes or donation to any faction or group.
