DIMAPUR, JUNE 2 (MExN): The office of the Kedallo Federal Government of Nagaland has issued a clarification to remove any confusion that might have been created in the minds of the public as a result of the joint press conference held on 30thMay 2011 by the GPRN/NNC and “NNC (Kiumukam Yimchumger Group) and the subsequent news item published on the 31stMay, 2011, and also clarify the stand of NNC/FGN under the leadership of Brig. (Retd.) S. Singnya, Kedahge, FGN.
“The Monyakshu Conclave Declaration of Unconditional Unity of 15th July 2010 by the NNC/FGN under Kedahge, Brig. (Retd) S. Singnya and the GPRN/NSCN was made to uphold and implement the commitment of the ‘Covenant of Reconciliation‘. In the same sprit the Unconditional Unity of NNC/FGN, GPRN/NSCN with the NNC (Dr. Senka and V. Nagi Group) was declared on the 14th December 2010. Any Co-ordination Committee meeting has to be attended by all the three entities and declarations made jointly. Anything short of this will lead to inconsistencies which can hamper the Unconditional Unity, stated the press note from Zhopra Vero, FGN.
Further stating that the Shillong Accord of 1975 was regarded as the root cause of division of the Naga family and fratricidal killings in our land for over 30 years, the press clarification noted that “as far as the Shillong Accord is concerned the hands of Brig. (Retd.) S.Singnya, Kedahge, NNC/FGN are clean and he has never been a party to it”. “The FGN under his leadership defends the rights of the Naga Nation till this day. The Accordists are those people who having accepted the Shillong Accord are living in the Transit Peace Camp at Kohima and therefore, they should not be mistaken as National Workers under the NNC/FGN”, it stated.
Pointing out that the checking of illegal taxation is the duty of each and every national worker and that “such efforts are appreciable”, the FGN stated that it was “dictated by the Yehzabo of Nagaland in its activities at all times”. To quote Art.82 (b): “The Kedahge shall prepare estimates and Receipts of Expenditure of the Government for every Financial year and shall present them to the Tatar Hoho for consideration” and Art. 86 (a): “The Tatar Hoho shall have the power to levy and collect taxes and revenues.” “In the light of these tradition and constitutional practice, the FGN under Brig.(Retd) S.Singnya do not require any permission from the Government of India or any individual in any form”, the press note stated.
It also clarified that the NNC was the political institution of the Nagas and that it was not a government. “Taxation is a subject matter of the FGN and not the NNC”, it clarified while adding that there is only one NNC instituted by the Nagas and therefore parallel groups only confuse our people. “Groupism only exposes the so called self appointed leaders who may lack the mandate of the people. The NNC leadership will be decided by the Nagas as a whole when each and every leader from the various regions is given mandate by the people of the respective region”, the press note stated.
Also at this crucial juncture of the ongoing Naga Reconciliation process, the press note stated that “it was neither the proper time for anybody to use provocative statements nor to be in conflict with another in order to gain individual identity and popularity in the guise of Naga Nationalism”.
