Fifth session of 13th NLA now on January 17

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 10 (MExN): The fifth session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) will be held on January 17 at 9:30 am in the Assembly Hall, Kohima. This was informed in an official release issued by the NLA Secretariat on Friday.  This is in supersession of the January 6 notification issued by the Nagaland Governor summoning the 5th session on February 7. It has been learnt that the date for the session was preponed to the current rendezvous after the centre asked for ratification of the amendments in connection to the Constitution (126th) Amendment Bill which will extend quota to SCs and STs in Lok Sabha and state assemblies by another 10 years.  The Parliament had passed the Bill on December 12, 2019. The state has been asked to ratify amendments to Article 334 of the Constitution pertaining to the period of reservation of seats and special representation in the House of the People and Legislative Assemblies to certain classes which attracts the clause (d) and proviso to clause (2) of the article 368 of the Constitution.  The provision of the Constitution (126th) Amendment Bill comes into force on January 25, 2020.
