A fire broke out from a general store at Vikiye Colony in Aghunato Town, Zunheboto on January 19.

• Property worth crore destroyed
• Fire went beyond control due to lack of fire service, GBs allege
Zunheboto, January 20 (MExN): A fire broke out from a general store at Vikiye Colony in Aghunato Town, Zunheboto on January 19 following which six households were affected.
In connection with the fire incident, a joint statement issued by Aghunato Town GBs and Lukikhe Village GBs stated that the fire broke out around 8:30 pm from the whole seller shop belonging to Devander Kumar, a general store owner. A general store, garment shop, one hostel attached and appliance and house hold goods shop including two households were destroyed in the fire, it reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
According to the press release issued by Vikishe Awomi, Chairman Aghunato GB Association; Hoshito GB Vikiye Colony; and Akavi Katty GB Lukikhe Village, six households were affected and property worth crore was destroyed.
It stated that the shop belonging to Devendar Kumar had goods worth around one crore approx; the hostel attached to the shop lost properties, all important documents for both students and owner of hostel Nipato Yeptho and cash worth 50- 60 lakh; the garment store lost worth 5 lakh, appliance store lost worth 2 lakh and three neighboring households worth lost Rs 5 lakh approximately.
Besides, the two storey building belonging to Kakiye Yeptho of Lukikhe Village was completely dozed down to ashes, it added.
The organisations expressed regret that ‘the damage could have been controlled or lessened, but due to lack of fire service, the fire went beyond control leading to a massive destruction and endangered many lives.’
However, they acknowledged the Fire Service department from Zunheboto for “crossing 35 Km away and rush to the spot and controlled the fire under controlled” and also acknowledge the “brave general public of Aghunato Town for timely arrived to fight the fire under controlled.”
