Fish farmers trained on pond management practices
Kohima, March 18 (MExN): A three day training programme was organized for fish farmers of Kohima district at Government Fish Farm, Thizama from March 12 to 14.
According to updates from the DIPR, the training programme focused on the topic ‘Pond Management Practices’ under Capacity Building and Skill Upgradation, RKVY during 2018-19 and sensitization programme on Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.
Resource persons from the Department of Fisheries namely A Meren Jamir, AFI; Khriezetuo Zatsu, FD; Impangtiba, Farm Incharge and Vikiho Shohe, FD, conducted sessions on various aspects like pond management, species selection, integrated farming, planning and economics as well as practical demonstrations on methods of feed preparation, water parameters and plankton estimation.
On the last day Kohima DFO Dory Yanthan apprised the fish farmers on the KCC Scheme and encouraged them to avail the loans for short term credit requirement of rearing of fish, shrimp, other aquatic organisms. She informed the fish farmers of the requisites for availing the KCC loans such as owning a pond, tank, open water bodies, raceway, hatchery, and rearing unit among others and said that potential and sincere fish farmers/fishers/women groups/ SHGs/JLGs can approach the Bank for availing loans under KCC.
Representing the 30 fish farmers who participated in the training, Yhunsenlo Kent from Tseminyu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be trained by the department. Vote of thanks was proposed by Zakiesielie Guozi, FD, the DIPR report stated.
