Fishery training at S Vihuto village

Dimapur, November 29 (MExN): ATMA Dimapur Niuland Block conducted training on fishery pond management based on liming under mobilization program for farmers of S Vihuto village on November 27.  

The resource person, Nokener Ozukum, FD, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and BTT member explained how liming increases the alkalinity of water. This, he stated, increases the availability of carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and also increases benthic production in fertilized ponds, apparently through increased nutrient availability.  

In a separate program at Hevikhe village, resource person Kavi Sumi, Scientist (Pathology), AICRP, SASRD demonstrated on the biological methods of pest control in vegetable crops. He encouraged the farmers to practice crop rotations, intercropping and other cultural methods to control pests’ infection and not to depend on excessive use of pesticide, a press relese from ATMA informed.
