In a condolence message released to the press, the FNR paid rich tribute to Esmonde who passed away on December 27 in Sri Lanka. His involvement in people’s peace initiatives in different parts of the world is an inspiration to all.” The FNR stated that “It was Phil Esmonde who was among the first individuals to share the Naga story with the Quakers Friends Society in London, and it was through this involvement that a long trustful relation started between the Quakers and the Nagas.”

He was patient facilitator and key to a number of decisive Reconciliation meetings held at Chiang Mai during which the Naga political groups, different Naga organizations and tribe hohos had attended. His presence and wisdom will be greatly missed by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation.” Conveying its condolences to his wife Kaushaliya, his family members and to the members of the Quakers Friends Society, London, the FNR said that they will surely miss him.
