Follow verbal commitment with action: NSF to government

DIMAPUR, JUNE 5 (MExN): The Naga Students Federation (NSF) while appreciating the verbal commitment given by the Nagaland Government on the charter of demands raised by the All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU), has however said that it should be followed by action. 

The Federation in a press statement on Wednesday encapsulated their expectations from the government on ways to settle the issues raised by the college union. 

Scholarship Issue

With investigation on misappropriation of scholarship fund now before the Lokayukta, the Federation has given two-week further time to complete the investigation. It also demanded that charge-sheeted officials should be immediately suspended. 

Nodal Cell

Pertaining to the setting up of the Nodal Cell, NSF reiterated that it should function as a separate entity of the Higher & Technical Education Department with a seven-member committee. It also suggested that funds allocated by the Centre and all students’ related schemes should be directly transferred into the accounts maintained by the Nodal Cell; and  scholarships should be released to the students latest by the month of August each year.

Land encroachment issue 

On Kohima Science College land encroachment issue, the Federation has demanded that the government give a status report of action taken within a period of 30 days from the date of receipt of the communication from NSF office. 

The Federation also demanded that all land encroachment issues in the district colleges and polytechnic institutions must be immediately recommended for proper land survey and land belonging to the institutions retained.

Recruitment issue

On the issue of assistant professor posts for recruitment, the Federation said due procedures of law should be followed by the government in matters of public employment. 

In this connection, the Federation has urged the government to issue public advertisement within two months.
