Food choice is personal, asserts Nagaland Congress denouncing proposed ‘Gau Dhwaj’ in Kohima

Kohima, September 10 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today condemned the proposed "Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra" event in Kohima on September 28, stating that food choice is a personal matter.

“Food choice is a personal matter and a fundamental aspect of individual freedom. Any attempts to impose one's food preferences or beliefs on others in the State would be opposed tooth and nail,” the NPCC asserted in a press release from its Communications Department.

The NPCC has always believed that the essence and strength of Indian democracy lie in its diversity and the mutual respect for one another's way of life among its citizens, it said.

However, the party noted that there has been an alarming rise in assaults against this foundational principle, which delicately holds together the very fabric of the Idea of India, authored by “elements inimical to the secular character of our Constitution under the tacit support of the State.”

According to the NPCC, the proposed "Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra," aimed at promoting the ‘ban on cow slaughter,’ is "Exhibit A" of this divisive trend.

Accordingly, it reiterated its sworn commitment to respecting and safeguarding the rich and diverse culture, traditions, and identities of all communities across the nation.
