Foundation stone laid for Naga Patient House in Vellore

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 12 (MExN): Minister for Mechanical and Housing, Tongpang Ozukum today attended the virtual foundation stone laying programme for the Naga Patient House, Vellore and the foundation stone laying for District Office Complex, Mokokchung.

The Minister stated that for many years, the Naga community in Chennai in collaboration with patients who come for treatment to Vellore were trying for a home, a shelter of our own to cater to the needs of the patients. They have even written to the government on several occasions.

“Therefore, listening to the cry of the people and realizing the necessity and importance to have such an infrastructure, Chief Minister, Nagaland Neiphiu Rio wrote a letter to Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu MK Stalin. Following which I personally went down to Chennai to meet the Chief Minister and other officials. He gave a patient hearing and promptly responded to our requests to allot a plot o land in Vellore for construction of the Naga Patient House,” he informed.

Ozukum hoped that this noble initiative of the PWD Housing Department will go a long way in maintaining cordial relationship with the counterpart Tamil Nadu government and most importantly "give a home away from home" to the patients from Nagaland.

In regard to the construction of District Office Complex at Wazako Lu, Mokokchung, the Minister said it is a much needed infrastructure in order to accommodate those departments whose offices are in rented buildings as of now.

“There are around 75 departments in Mokokchung district and out those, around 14 departments does not have their own office building. Therefore it was felt necessary to come up with such infrastructure,” he stated.
