Four more schools declared ‘tobacco free’ in Zunheboto

Zunheboto, October 19 (MExN): In view to discuss the agenda of DAPCU, National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) and National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) a DLCC meeting was conducted at District Hospital conference hall, Zunheboto on October 18.

A press release from the CMO office stated that Dr Esther Ngullie, District Nodal Officer NTCP declared four more schools as tobacco free. She requested the officials present to disseminate about the smoke free campaign and implement stern action against those offenders. 

Further, she highlighted on the activities carried out by the NTCP where 24 schools and 6 villages have been declared as tobacco free under Zunheboto district. She stated the district is fortunate to have received Smokerlyzer machine which checks the lung condition and shows the amount of carbon monoxide level of the smokers and inform the officials to spread the message to the public to avail the services for free of cost and in addition stated that even counselling is being provided for those who wish to quit tobacco.

Viketoulie Metha, EAC presented the certification of Tobacco free to the four school representative. 

Dr Y Aron Muru, DTO Zunheboto highlighted on NTEP and stated that to eliminate TB it requires concrete and synchronized efforts and contribution from the stakeholders. He elaborated on the Nikshay Mitra scheme which is a nutritional support for the TB patient.

Supervisor NTEP presented a detailed report of case findings for the year 2020 till date and update on the Nikshay Mitra where till date seventeen donors have contributed and ten beneficiaries received nutritional support till date and ongoing.

Hokishe Chophy, DPO DAPCU spoke on stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV and presented a detailed report and statistics on people with HIV.

The meeting was attended by Officer in charge Zunheboto, SP office representative, EAC, school representative and staffs of various programmes.
