
Sports-related topics dominate queries on Google Trends

An analysis of Google Trends for Nagaland in 2024 reveals that while general terms such as file format, meaning, definition, weather, and software dominated overall searches, sports-related topics experienced the biggest surges in interest.
On Google Trends, the ‘Top’ metric highlights the “most popular topics,” while the ‘Rising’ metric reflects topics with the greatest increase in search frequency over a specified period. Additionally, terms experiencing extraordinary growth within a particular timeframe are labelled as “Breakout.”

Among the ‘Rising’ section for web searches in Nagaland, the query “DramaCool – Software” was marked as a ‘Breakout.’
DramaCool, a website offering free access to Asian television shows and films, particularly Korean content, saw searches surge from the last week of May. Interest peaked during the periods of September 8-14 and September 22-28, and remained steady despite the website reportedly being shut down in November.
Sports dominated the top searches, with queries related to UEFA Euro 2024 (ranking 2nd and 4th) and Copa América (3rd) peaking during the June-July period when these tournaments were held. Searches related to examinations also saw an increase, particularly in October 2024.
General topics such as ‘Medal, Final – Competition,’ ‘Miss Universe India,’ ‘Eclipse,’ and the ‘2024 Indian General Election in Nagaland’ were among the top six searches. Queries about 2025 ranked ninth. The unique lottery game Shillong Teer maintained continuous interest throughout the year, placing 7th.
Other popular searches included the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup (8th) and ‘Amazon – Topic’ (10th). Completing the top 20 were topics like When the Phone Rings (a television series), the Olympic Games, Lok Sabha elections, rodents (specifically hamsters), Xiaomi, Squid Game – Season 2, Twenty20 cricket, and definitions.
Related Queries
In the ‘related’ section, UEFA Euro 2024 was labelled a ‘Breakout’ search, while the free anime streaming website “hianime” saw a 4,400% increase in interest. Sports topics and Lok Sabha election results also featured prominently.
Searches for “RGA” emerged in the top five of related queries. In the ‘News’ category, terms like “Reinsurance Group of America” and “RGA International Reinsurance Company” were among the most searched. Related topics, including “R/GA – Advertising Company,” also saw ‘Breakout’ searches, with many users associating these terms with fraud.
Interest in RGA began in late December 2023, dipped in early 2024, recovered in late July, and peaked between October 20-26.
During this period, the Nagaland Police issued an advisory on October 23 warning the public about a suspected investment scam by a company named RGA, which was described as a Ponzi scheme. The following day, the State Crime Police Station registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Other top searches in the ‘News’ section included the 2024 Indian General Election in Nagaland, Anant Ambani, and N. Chandrababu Naidu. The United States Presidential Election also featured among the top 10 queries.
Arts & Entertainment
Asian television series dominated the Arts and Entertainment category, with titles such as Queen of Tears and DramaCool Love Next Door in the top five. Topics like YiWan (Shanghai) Network Technology Co., Ltd and manufacturing costs also featured prominently.
Other notable search trends included interest in spoken languages such as Russian and Japanese, artificial intelligence, male anatomy, Meesho, and postal index numbers.

Over the past seven days leading up to January 5, 2025, sports-related queries topped the charts in Nagaland. Matches between Barbastro and Barcelona, Manchester City and West Hampshire, and the India-Australia Test series led the trends.
Aside from searches related to the New Year and weather, all other top 17 trends were sports-related.
