Gen. Khole, Kitovi meet NMA & NSF

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 8 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN President Gen. Khole Konyak and Ato Kilonser N Kitovi Zhimomi met Naga Mothers Association (NMA) let by its President Abei-u Meru, Secretary Lochumbeni Humtsoe and Naga Students Federation (NSF) led by its President Kelhouneizo Yhome and Secretary N Ejanthung Ngullie at the Oking on 8th August 2011. This was informed in a press note issued by MIP.
President Gen. Khole pointed out that since joining the Naga National movement his only desire had been to serve the Naga Nation with dedication and commitment. Power or position never mattered to him. He pointed out that he was bestowed the honour to head GPRN/NSCN and he accepted the responsibility with humility because his responsibility towards the Naga people remain unchanged.
“His vision and goal for the Naga people is unshakable even in his advanced age. He reaffirmed that the younger generation Nagas should not be confused or mislead into committing political mistakes. He was convinced that peace, unity and oneness in approach and vision is the only realistic path towards finding a political solution to the Indo-Naga problem”.
Gen Khole also informed the NSF and NMA that as a martial law supervisor, post Shillong accord, he saved the lives of Isak Chishi and Thiungaleng Muivah from certain death. He believed then and now that bloodshed among the Naga brothers would never solve the Naga issue.
Ato Kilonser N. Kitovi Zhimomi appreciated the NMA and NSF for responding positively to the invitation and expressed that GPRN/NSCN is matured enough to understand the sentiments of the Naga people. He admitted that in the past there may have been lack of communications giving rise to suspicions and undue speculations between GPRN/NSCN and NGO’s/civil societies but that phase is over and seeking opinions and doing what is best for the Naga people must be the priority of all those who believe in the right of the Naga nation.
“Killing among Naga brothers have multiplied orphans, widows in Nagaland. Anti-social elements have also multiplied killing the Naga society slowly. Only through peace and reconciliation can the Naga Nation be rebuilt. Naga Independence and sovereignty cannot be compromised for peace-meal solution. On the pretext of fighting for sovereignty, Nagas have murdered enough”, the MIP quoted the Ato Kilonser. The GPRN/NSCN believed that future generations must be given a chance to prosper along with the rest of the world. Ato Kilonser also pointed out that to realise this, it is the duty of all Nagas to contribute towards peace, reconciliation so that an acceptable political solution could be achieved.
The NMA President Abei-u Meru informed the members that NMA do not represent any group, faction or party. She said that as mothers, NMA is a mouthpiece of everyone who desires to see peace and harmony in the land. She expressed the sentiments of every housewife and a mother in Naga homeland who dread losing a beloved son or a loving husband in the fratricidal killing. She expressed the fear that it would be very unfortunate if there was to be another eruption of violence among the Nagas. She appealed that differences may exist but there is always a way to resolve the problem for common good. Communicating with one another is very important and NMA hoped that periodic meeting with GPRN authorities in future would restore trust and confidence between national workers and civil societies.

NMA Advisor Sano Vamuzo also opined that it is a sad thing that educated sons and daughters do not wish to come home to their beautiful land because of the conflict in our land. “Nagas do not worship Gods and Goddesses. Nagas worship only one God. Jesus is the only son of God and likewise, Nagas should have one vision and one solution. What happened in the past cannot be corrected. As Christians, Nagas can only seek forgiveness from God”, stated the MIP quoting Sano Vamuzo. She appealed for common vision.
Also stating that Nagas have very rich culture but their importance seems to be losing ground, she stated. “In the early days Nagas fought against Indian military but today the struggle is amongst the Nagas which is very unfortunate. God wants the Nagas to be together. All factions use the same flag and claims to worship the same God. There is no reason why Nagas should not come together concentrating on common issues. Many unpleasant things have happened in the past but learning to appreciate one another is very important”, she stated.
Rosemary Dzuvichu, also NMA Advisor, pointed out that since the beginning of Naga political struggle, women have played a very important role and expressed hope that the plight of Naga women would be addressed to by all political groups. Equal opportunity should also be extended to women national workers because women can contribute meaningfully in their own efficient way. The problem of incessant taxation on educational institution was also pointed out.
“The Government of India and its own policy towards recruitment, development and administration of educational establishments in Nagaland and National workers must understand the sensitivity of the structure”. She encouraged the members that the history of Irish people and their struggle serves as a good example for Nagas. Sovereignty is a conglomeration of policies and peace among the Nagas would enable the Naga people to deliberate on the issue.
NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome, expressed hope that Nagas would reason together for the sake of future generations. NSF, he remarked, was formed in the 1940’s and it had always been very vocal in Naga national movement and its role as a student body do not confine to the state of Nagaland. It has always played a pro-active role in all Naga inhabited areas. NSF president affirmed its support for peace and reconciliation among the Nagas under the aegis of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), keeping in mind the desire of the Naga people to find the acceptable political solution. He said that NSF will be fully behind any organisation that reflects the desire of the founders of the Naga National movements. NSF, he said, had passed certain resolutions with regard to non taxation on educational institutions and local entrepreneurs for specific period of time. For the sake of socio- economic progress of the Naga people, he requested the GPRN/NSCN to streamline and undertake pro-people policy so that Nagas could build a prosperous society along with the rest of the world. NSF would always be ready to share opinions and ideas with National workers for better understanding and co-ordination in future.
