Getting To Zero: HIV is not a personal issue

Mon, December 4 (MExN): Addressing the World Aids Day programme at Mon on December 1, KNSK President Lomei, pledged to take up the challenge to tackle the problem of HIV/AIDS along with those involved in this field. “HIV is not a personal issue; it is the issue of the whole community that has to be solved with support and cooperation of every rightful citizen,” she stated. Supporting this statement, Company Commander, 6th AR also extended his cooperation work together to minimize spreading of HIV/AIDS in the society and to lead a HIV free life. 

A press release issue by Longnyim Tzudir, DPO, DAPCU stated that the programme began by observing a one minute silence, paying homage to lost friends. Angau I Thou, Deputy Commissioner, Mon graced the programme as guest speaker. 

In her speech, DC Mon stated that HIV/AIDS is a world wide burning issue and even in our present society it is increasing in an alarming rate, which is everybody’s responsibility to take up the challenge in order to make HIV zero. Referring on the present scenario of 33 million HIV infected people across the world, she said that such blunder should not be repeated and the challenge should start within us. She further stated that one should remain totally abstinent before marriage, not involving in immoral activities and leading a pure life. 

She also encouraged the HIV infected people to be bold and come forward to access free services of treatment on ART at their respective ICTCs. Stressing on the theme, “Getting To Zero” she appealed that Zero new HIV infections, Zero Discrimination, Zero AIDS related Deaths challenges are to start from this very moment.

Walo Organization, Chief Functionary, Phangnon speaking on “Significance of the day” said that the day is observed to show care and concern for HIV infected people. She also stated that the theme “Getting To Zero” has been adopted by UN for the period of 2010-2015, with a strong challenge in minimizing HIV/AIDS infections down to Zero by 2015. She further highlighted about the routes of transmission, its preventive measures and the availability of ART drugs for PLHA free of cost to lead healthy and normal lives. 

Sharing on “Living positively” by a member of MNP+, encouraged the hidden positive population to come forward and avail the free Government services to live a normal life. She appealed the community to extend cooperation in rooting out stigma and discrimination in the society.

A documentary show was displayed by the MSF, whereby the message of HIV/AIDS awareness, treatment Services and testimony of PLWHA were imparted to the participants followed by a solo from Yenwang Konyak and music by RASP band. Chongying Konyak, Director, Turning Point Organisation concluded the programme with vote of thanks. 

The programme was jointly organised by the DAPCU, NRHM, MSF, RRC, RNTCP, CHAI, World Vision India, Youth Department of local Churches, Walo organization, Turning Point Organisation, Shansham organization, YASS organization and Mon Users Network at Private Station near KSU Martyr Park, Mon.
