Kohima | July 18 : Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today released the biography (Biopic) on Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, Minister for Higher & Technical Education and Urban Development at a function held at The Heritage. The biography on Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and coined as “A Giant Among Men” was produced by The Global Open University, Nagaland.
Releasing the biography, Rio said the biography has been authored and published by the Global Open University, Nagaland to pay tribute to the person of Dr. Shürhozelie for his notable works, and also to record his illustrious career and many outstanding achievements and contribution for the benefit of the present and future generations.
Congratulating the Global Open University for “the wonderful idea and efforts in bringing out this biography of Dr. Liezietsu, Rio said “I hope the biography would not only be an important record and reference book in the libraries, but would also inspire the readers, both present and future generations, to try to emulate his examples and achievements, and in the process, make them to become better and more productive citizens of the country and the world.”
Stating that he felt proud and privilege to have a distinguished colleague like Dr. Liezietsu, Rio said “With his vast knowledge and experience in the field of education and literature, in the field of public service and governance, in the field of parliamentary procedures and law making, he has been an invaluable asset to the present and previous ministries.”
As a seasoned parliamentarian, well versed in the rules and procedures of the House (Nagaland Legislative Assembly), his contributions to the proceeding of the state assembly are always appreciated by both the ruling and opposition benches. Out of the 11 state assemblies that have been constituted since the inception of the State, Dr. Shürhozelie has been a member in eight of them.
Rio said as a politician, Dr. Shürhozelie is a staunch regionalist. From the very beginning of his political career, he has always been in the regional party with the ‘Cock ‘ symbol, which was first started by Democratic Party of Nagaland and which has now become Naga People’s Front, of which he is also the President today.
Dr. Shürhozelie first contested under the aegis of United Front of Nagaland in 1969 and was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Saying that he said been continuously holding important party positions for the last more than 30 years, Rio said “He is a man of integrity, steadfast in his belief and principles, by which he had earned respect of the people.” Rio said that one of the most notable one being his contribution as President of Ura Academy for the last 40 years.
The Ura Academy has played a pioneering role in developing the Tenyidie language and literature to the level it is today as recognized discipline and the department of post graduate studies under Nagaland University. “Perhaps, as an individual, Dr. Shürhozelie has made one of the greatest contributions in this regard.” Further, Rio said Dr. Shürhozelie has also personally written and published 39 books in Tenyidie, a feat which be difficult to emulate.” “Dr. Shürhozelie has earned for himself a place in the history of Naga literature, especially in Tenyidie literature, where he is now standing as a giant,” Rio said.
Dr. Shürhozelie also spoke on the occasion and thanked Chief Minister for his presence. He also thanked Imotemsu Ao, Director of the Global Open University Nagaland and producer Sandila for the project.
