Gorkhas in Kohima observe martyrs’ day

Kohima, August 25 (MExN): Gorkha Public Panchayat, Kohima (GPPK) along with other Gorkha NGOs observed Balidan Diwas (Martyrs’ Day) at GPPK hall, Chandmari, Kohima on Thursday evening.

Gracing the occasion as special guest, Commandant 1st Assam Rifles, Col. Umesh Chandra Sati, Gaon Burah Kamal Bahadur Chettri, GPPK president Santu Thapa and advisors led in lighting of lamps and paying rich floral tribute to the gallant heroes – Major Late Durga Malla and Late Captain Neikezakuo at their portrait. 

Addressing the gathering, Col Sati urged all not to forget the sacrifices made by the gallant heroes and also to be inspired by them in any circumstances.

Significance of the day was shared by Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha president, Chandra Kumar Lama.

Other members of the community within and outside the state joined the programme virtually through Google connect. 

GPPK secretary Jibon Pradhan chaired the programme while special numbers were presented Vivela Club, Esha Khati & Binod Mothey while Gorkha Biswakarma Pariwarik Welfare Society Ratan Lohar tendered the vote of thanks.
