Shamator, June 27 (DIPR): S. Wongto Yimchunger a pioneer leader of Yimchunger community expired on 24th June 2011 after a brief illness. He was 107 years. Son of Lt. Shokum Yimchunger, Lt. Wongto Yimchunger DB was a dedicated leader and one among few who struggled for the establishment of Shamator headquarter. He left his village (Wongphungrüv) now Washur in 1944 and took initiative clearing up jungles, digging public drinking wells etc during the creation of Shamator headquarter. He was appointed as DB in 1955 and was also awarded the Governor’s Medal in recognition of his undisputed leadership. Thousands of mourners from neighbouring villages, GBs, DBs, public leaders attended his funeral service held at Shamator town headquarter. Parliamentary Secretary for IPR, Economics & Statistics R. Tohanba also mourned the demise of the pioneer leader and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
