Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): The government today appealed to the public to refrain from dumping waste materials and earth along National Highway 29 near the Naga Hospital in Kohima town. Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Temjen Toy issued a note making the appeal.
“Despite efforts made by the district administration of Kohima, it has been reported that illegal dumping of earth and waste material continues unabated on NH-29 near Naga Hospital Kohima. Such dumping has lead to stagnation and flooding of water on the road surface resulting in sinking of the road formation,” the commissioner stated.
“If such dumping is not stopped, there is strong likelihood of triggering huge landslides in the area during the monsoon. The government appeals to all concerned to desist from such illegal dumping in the interest of the public.” The government also appeals to all citizens to report “any such dumping” to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima so that punitive actions would be taken against the defaulters.
