Govt Middle School Daklane upgraded to High School

‘Provide quality education for sustainable future’

Nagaland Women Resources Development & Horticulture Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse today inaugurated the newly upgraded Government High School Daklane, Kohima, in the presence of School Education & SCERT Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.

Addressing the gathering, Kruse underscored the importance of providing quality education to ensure better and a sustainable future for everyone. She said that education shapes character, building values for life challenges, adding that “investing in education is investing in a better future for all.”

The upgradation of Daklane school is an investment for the future for our community, she said, adding “The doors of opportunity have just opened wider for you.”

Urging the teachers to shoulder more responsibility and obligation with the upgradation of the school, Kruse said “Your dedication does not just educate minds, it shapes the future of the society.”

She was optimistic that the teachers will serve the school with outmost dedication and sincerity.

The minister stressed on the need to work together towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

“Let us move forward with a renewed commitment to education, to the future of our children, and to the betterment of our society as a whole,” Kruse said.

Meanwhile, Kruse thanked Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio for undertaking various developmental and welfare activities for the people of the state.

She also thanked Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome for facilitating the upgradation of two middle schools in Kohima town within 8th Western Angami A/C in recent times.

 

Govt to scholarship for students soon

Also addressing the gathering as the guest of honour, Dr Yhome said “This is the place where we are going to train our children to become somebody, to become leaders in our society.”

He expressed hope that this school will shine with the upgradation.

Stating that rebranding of the schools has become important, he said “We are now rebranding our government schools. We will have to do aggressive marketing.”

We need to change the system, he said and stressed on the need to redesign the schools.

“We are looking at infrastructure, administrative governance, human resource management of teachers,” he said, adding that the department is also looking at upscaling the school standards.

Dr Yhome said that the government will soon be announcing scholarship, create learning outcomes and facilities for children.

The inaugural programme was led by Khrietuonyii Noudi while welcome address was delivered by Er. Kelechutuo Pienyii, chairman, Daklane. Vote of thanks was proposed by Angou Koza, Head Teacher, GHS Daklane.


About GHS Daklane

Presenting the report of the school, Daklane SMC chairman Dr David Sachü said that Daklane school, initially called as Lower Primary School established in 1954, prior to statehood, was one of the oldest primary school next to Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School Kohima.

The school served as an educational epitome of learning and serving the students coming from various localities in and around Kohima. He thanked late Neikuolie Solo for donating land for the establishment of this school.

This school was upgraded to Government Middle School GMS in 2002. In 2019-2020 through Swacch Bharat Kosh (Under Samagra Shiksha) the Middle School section building was constructed further.
It got upgraded to High School with the approval of State Level Education Committee on December 19, 2025.

With the upgradation, 22 students have been enrolled in Class IX this year. 

Presently, the school has a total enrolment of 204 students with 24 teachers.

Meanwhile, Dr Sachii pleaded with the School Education Department for room renovation, an ICT and science laboratory rooms.

This school offers counselling facility by fully trained and qualified counsellor, conducts regular medical check-ups, Self-Defence courses for the girls and conducts regular Life Skill Classes on various skills and crafts.

The school has also enabled opening of Zero Balance Bank accounts for the students. Further, it offers free textbook, note books including home visitation for weak students.
