The ongoing 30th National Conference on Condensed Matter Physics (Condensed Matter Days - 2022) entered its second day here, at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland with Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Government of Nagaland gracing the event.
Addressing the eminent scientists and professors from across India, Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Government of Nagaland welcomed all to “a growing Nagaland, and to a future prosperous state.”
“Today, you will come and see a not-so prosperous Nagaland, not a complete NIT centre but the goal is clear. Nagaland will be very clear in the future of our people.” He expressed gratitude to the Government of India for giving the state an NIT which started functioning in the academic year 2010.
He maintained that the state government is pursuing the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Nagaland as well. While there are still many things to be done here and chronic problems being faced by the NIT Nagaland, the minister assured that “we are trying to tackle it gradually and make sure that it will move ahead.”
Along further acknowledged the prominent and hardworking faculties of the Institute and expressed hope that the NIT Nagaland as a centre of excellence will be produce the future builders of the state and the nation, and that it will be a learning point for researchers from across the country as well.
Also addressing the delegates and researchers present he said, “We want you to learn not only about the technology and research, but we would also want you to learn about our people and let the rest of the country know who we are and how we live. That we are also part and parcel of this great nation.”
Advising the students to be responsible in nation building and make sure that we all do our part, the minister further encouraged them to take active role in the field one is studying. “You are the lucky ones who are getting to study here at NIT, so do your best,” he added.
While also thanking the faculties of NIT Nagaland for putting up a successful event, Along expressed hope that the NIT Nagaland as a centre of excellence will be produce the future builders of the state and the nation.
Earlier, the minister unveiled the foundation stone of Sports Pavilion Construction of NIT Nagaland in the presence of Dr S Venugopal, Director of NIT Nagaland and the faculty.
This annual symposium is one of the oldest conferences held in India and is being held in Nagaland for the first time at NIT Nagaland organized by the Department of Physics (Department of Science and Humanities), with the objective of further strengthening the Northeast region in the field of science and technology.
The entire scientific programme is being attended by around 132 research scholars from IIT Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Kolkata, NISER Odisha and the Northeast states of India which includes Guwahati University, Dibrugarh University, Tezpur University, IIT Guwahati, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Manipur and Tripura University.
Around 20 research scholars from NIT Nagaland are partaking in the event while there are also participants from Nagaland University, Kohima Science College and Patkai Christian College as well.
The conference has invited over 40 guest speakers at the three-day event. The concluding day will have Prof Purushottam Chakraborty speak on the topic ‘Alkali – Metal based Molecular Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) for quantitative composition analysis of quantum confined structures’ and several other sessions and poster presentations.
