DIMAPUR, January18 (MExN): Following the complaint of the Urra Area Villages’ Union against the para military forces presently camping in Urra village, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur district, N Hushili Sema, has written a letter to the state chief secretary and additional chief secretary and commissioner, requesting for withdrawal of para military forces from the area.
DC Dimapur in a letter dated January 18, 2012, addressed to the state chief secretary and additional CS, urged for withdrawal of the para military forces from Urra village area stating that the “situation in the said area is quite normal as of now.”
DC Dimapur in the letter stated that the memorandum of the Urra Area Villages’ Union addressed to the chief secretary through DC Dimapur, dated January 16, 2012, was “self explanatory.”
“In this matter, I would like to bring to your kind notice that the general public is facing difficulties due to regular frisking of vehicles, its occupants and even pedestrians which is creating fear psychosis to the people living in the said areas. Moreover due to occupation of the school campus by the para military forces, the school authorities are not in a position to start their classes for the current academic year,” the letter stated.
It may be mentioned the para military forces (Assam Rifles) have been camping in Urra village since January 13 last to prevent the NSCN/GPRN leaders Isak Chishi Swu and Th. Muivah from leaving Hebron Camp for their proposed visit to Zunheboto.
Earlier, the Urra Area Villages’ Union in a memorandum submitted to the chief secretary through DC Dimapur Dimapur, demanded immediate withdrawal of para military forces from their areas. The villagers expressed displeasure over the “constant frisking” of people and transport, occupation of a school at Urra and the general fear psychosis created by presence of security personnel and insecurity of women folk.
Meanwhile, when contacted Urra Area Villages’ Union president, Velasuzo Shijoh expressed optimism that the state government would take cognition of the plight of the villagers and relay the same to the Centre and the ceasefire monitoring group (CFMG) for immediate withdrawal of Assam Rifles personnel.
According to the villagers, there are still around 50-60 AR personnel camping in Urra village.
