‘Govt will see teachers are trained appropriately,’ says DoNER Minister

Lays foundation stone for ‘In-Service Teachers Training cum Examination Centre with Residential facilities’ in Nagaland

Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy laid the foundation stone for construction of “In-Service Teachers Training cum Examination Centre with Residential facilities” at Pherima under Medziphema sub division on September 25.

Addressing the gathering, Reddy said the project on In-Service Teachers Training cum Examination Centre with Residential facilities for Nagaland state is assisted by DONER, Government of India. He said that the project is one of the important components accorded to the education department in Nagaland.

Stating that teachers are the builder of the nation, he said that the government will see that teachers are trained appropriately in term of methods and techniques. Reddy was optimistic that the project will benefit the teachers and cater to the needs of the state in future.

The training centre will provide various crash course programmes. It will also provide accommodation facilities for the supporting employees and the hostel facilities for the trainers.

Reddy informed that after 33 years, the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi took up New Education Policy by gathering ideas and suggestions from several experts, scientists, teachers, professionals and intellectuals’.

In this policy, we are giving priority for local language, he said adding that it wants to promote professional education, protect culture, traditions, local songs and music and festivals.
 
PM wants 100% literacy in NE 
In North East region, the Minister said that the Prime Minister of India wants 100% literacy in the region. In this, he said everyone should come forward and take pledge to attain 100% literacy in the region.

As DoNER minister, “I am with the people of North East,” he said and assured that he will be committed to develop north eastern states in coordination with GoI.

He also mentioned on the PM’s new education policy which includes the inputs for education policy for every state in India which give priority and protects local culture, festivals, and songs, in education. He requested Nagaland to pledge for 100% literacy, as Nagaland is one of the opportunity state which is rich in natural resources and can also create employment and fulfill the dream of Naga people, added a DIPR report. 

He told the gathering that GoI allocates Rs 67,000 crores for development of NE region in this current financial year.
He was also optimistic that the GoI will increase the allocation in the coming years for overall development of the region.
“We want train connectivity for NE region. We want air connectivity for NE region,” he said.

Reddy said that Modi asked him to go to Northeast and talk with the people and then plan for projects to create employment.
 
Learning is a continuous process
Also speaking on the occasion, Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary affairs minister Neiba Kronu said that learning is a continuous process for which this In-service Teachers Training Centre was conceptualized by Zhaleo Rio with full support from KT Sukhalu.

This is a concept where we felt that a teacher have to be trained, he said and thanked DONER for considering the project.

Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs Advisor Zhaleo Rio thanked the Ministry of DoNER for sanctioning the project and the school education department for chosen the location of Pherima to be the centre of excellence for in-service teachers for the entire state.

He also requested the education department and DoNER to complete the work in time so that the benefit will be reaped by the targeted groups at the earliest.

School education advisor KT Sukhalu said that the New Education Policy envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a lot of challenges in our education system.

“We need to train our teachers. We need to upgrade skills of our teachers,” he said.

He assured that the department will complete this project on time.

The project cost Rs 20 crore of which Rs 15.5 have been crore sanctioned. Rs 4.5 crore is the state share.

The programme was chaired by Shanavas C, Principal Director, School Education while vote of thanks was proposed by Kevileno Angami, Special Secretary, Department of School Education & SCERT, Government of Nagaland.
