Kohima, December 6 (MExN): The annual general meeting of the Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) was held at GPPK complex Chandmari Kohima on December 1. The inaugural session was graced by Buddha Lama, Deputy Director, Directorate of School Education and Parshu Ram Rana, Registrar, Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts Nagaland as special guests.
The programme began with hoisting of GPPK flag and lighting of ceremonial lamp by the special guests and dignitaries, said a press release from its Press & Publicity Secretary, Anup Rana.
Speaking on the occasion, Buddha Lama lauded the GPPK for shouldering the responsibilities and working for the welfare of the Gorkhas of Kohima while also acknowledging the Panchayat for preserving the identity of its headquarter - Chandmari for which the Gorkhas of Kohima are known by others, he added.
Parshu Ram Rana called upon the members to remain united and extend support to the Panchayat so that the Gorkha Community under the aegis of the GPPK can extend welfare programmes to other communities also.
The gathering was exhorted by Gayatri Devi, former President and Advisor, GPPK. The 1st session was chaired by Suresh Kr Lama, General Secretary and vote of thanks was delivered by Maya Gurung. Nobin Pradhan, President Nagaland Gorkha Association was also present on the occasion.
The 2nd session was chaired by Prabhu Gurung, Vice-President while presidential address was delivered by Santu Thapa, President GPPK and vote of thanks was pronounced by Dhiraj Pradhan.
Resolutions concerning the community were also adopted. A song was presented by Samir Rai from Vivela Club Kohima. Members from Kohima and outside attended the meeting.
