GPRN/NSCN condemns AR ‘high handedness’

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 30 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN has condemned what it termed as “high handedness” of the Indian security forces against a GPRN/NSCN member.

A press release from the MIP of the GPRN/NSCN said that troops of the 5 Assam Rifles conducted a raid on the residence of one Lieutenant Ajong Chang at around 11:30 pm on August 28. It accused the security forces of resorting to “physical abuse without finding faults of him.”

“Such arbitrary and unilateral action is detrimental to Ceasefire Ground Rules. Therefore, the security forces are advised to restrain themselves and adhere to the agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules signed between the Government of India (GOI) and GPRN/NSCN as 2 separate entities,” the GPRN/NSCN said.

It further reminded that the ‘Agreed Position’ was also signed on the November 17, 2017 between the Government of India and GPRN/NSCN “which has once again reaffirmed and committed to bring about enduring peace in Nagaland through political negotiation.”

“Such intermittent raids and unilateral actions by the security forces have once again raised the doubtfulness of the GOI’s credibility for peaceful settlement,” it stated. The GPRN/NSCN urged the security forces to immediately cease all kinds of provocative actions.
