GPRN/NSCN flays Telegraph report

The Telegraph in its N.E section Dt. 25th October 2010 carried an article about the vendors shutting shops to protest extortion. While the correspondent for Nagaland may have filed the article with the best of intentions with facts and figures, the latter part of the article, however, needs to be clarified because twisting and juxtaposing different issues makes matter worse. Reporting facts is to embrace fearless journalism.

As reported in the local dailies and also mentioned in the N.E telegraph, GPRN/NSCN fully endorses the statement issued by Kihoto, Dy. Kilonser of IM who promised to check rampant extortion in Dimapur. Naga people must clearly understand that 90% of criminal activities such as abduction for ransom, drug trafficking and other immoral activities in Nagaland, particularly in Dimapur, are orchestrated not by individuals in Nagaland but committed at the behest of gangs from Manipur and neighboring states. The vicious cycle has become a serious disease in the Naga society. The report of ANPBU which appeared in all the local dailies on 12th and 13th Oct. 2010 pointing out different taxations is a clear indication as to who is burdening the general public. If Kihoto of IM is to seriously begin operation against miscreants in Dimapur, he will definitely be recalled by the masters of those miscreants at Hebron camp within no time. Reason? Some pockets will seriously shrink!

The report in the same telegraph about the Naga Hoho, NSF, NMA being wary of the anti-social elements and therefore organizing a rally on 26th Oct. 2010, calling upon the government of India to expedite political dialogue with IM group is extremely perplexing. The Telegraph correspondent added to the confusion created by the organizers of the now cancelled rally. He could have lucidly elaborated the bright idea of the organizers and the plain truth about the opinion of the Naga people which the GPRN/NSCN and NNC/FGN explained on behalf of the peace loving Nagas. The distinguished correspondent has failed to do justice to his respected breed.
