Addressing the 15th biennial general conference of All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) here at St. Joseph’s College, the minister said the schools and colleges have been producing more and more educated youth every year which is considered to be an important achievement of the government on the one hand, while on the other hand, the unemployment problem has also started raising its head which we cannot ignore and remain complacent.
In Nagaland, he said, we neither have any govt. owned/private industry nor private sector players for investment in the state which can offer employment to the people. “What our educated youth depend for their livelihood are mostly government jobs. Today, the employment ratio in Nagaland is very high which is said to have reached the saturation point,” the minister said. The minister also stressed on the need to inculcate work culture among the young force in the state. “Our parents were very hard working people. Even without education, they were self- sufficient. They maintained self sustainable economy without depending on others,” the minister said adding “we uphold that education is the key to all kind of developments.” “Therefore, after getting education, whether that helps improve the self sustainable economy which our parents maintained with pride in the past?,” he quarried and lamented that one the unfortunate things was that work culture is slowly disappearing from among us.

The government have also programme to set up polytechnic institutes for Peren, Longleng and Kiphire districts after consolidation of the presently set up ones, the minister said.
Dr. Liezietsu said the central government had allotted one National Institute of Technology (NIT) for the state, which started functioning at Silchar since last year. Preparations are afoot to bring this Institute to Chumukedima for which the government has already renovated the buildings constructed earlier for DC’s office. The minister said NITs offer degree courses at bachelor, masters and doctoral levels in various branches of engineering, science, technology and managements. Though it comes under the direct purview of the central government, 50% of the seats for all courses will be for the Naga students. The State is also getting one Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) which will be operated on PP Mode. “Expressing of interest” has been issued inviting industrial partners to participate. “With all these set-up, we feel we have laid the foundation of the technical education in the state which will solve our problems for some years to come, actions towards employability.”
