Gunfight in Mon’s Chenloisho village

A gunfight between Assam Rifles personnel and unidentified assailants occurred in Mon on October 20. According to military sources, the shootout took place along the Indo-Myanmar International border when a base of the 40 Assam Rifles came under attack around 2:10am. It lasted less than 5 minutes. The sources said that the attackers, suspected to be cadres of the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K), targeted a Company Operating Base at Chenloisho village, in Chen Circle with small arms fire and lathode grenades from a hillside situated around 400m from the base.  The AR troops retaliated and during the 4 minute or so exchange of fire, mortars and rocket launchers were also used. There was no report of casualty from both sides.  The sources held that the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) “in order to display its presence in Nagaland are carrying out sabotage activities.” The Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing) added, “The insurgents ran away after coming under immediate an accurate fire from the Assam Rifles post.  Extensive search and domination operations have been launched in the area. Repeated attempts to reach out to the Mon police for information were unsuccessful.
