High Powered Committee set up to review ad-hoc teachers’ issue

Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): A High Powered Committee to review and devise a mechanism to resolve the issue of ad-hoc or contract appointments under the Nagaland Department of School Education has been constituted.

With Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister KD Vizo as Chairperson, the Committee was formed as per the agreement made between the All Nagaland Ad-Hoc Teachers Group of 2015 batch (ANATG-2015) on October 7.

According to a notification issued by state Chief Secretary J Alam on October 18, the HPC has been asked to submit its report by June 2023 and also examine the grant of the 7th Central Pay Commission (Revision of Pay) to the ANATG-2015.

While the Committee may co-opt members as deemed necessary, it has been instructed to have review meetings every two months.

The representatives of the ANATG-2015 and All Nagaland Teachers Association shall be given opportunity of presenting their case before the Committee, the notification stated.

ANATG-2015 laud ‘quick action’
Meanwhile, the ANATG-2015 President Rüguotsolie and General Secretary Kewasing Khing issued a statement acknowledging the ‘quick action’ taken by the state government, ahead of the 15 day deadline.

“The Group reaffirms good faith in the initiative of the Government whilst anticipating a positive solution,” it added.

Earlier on September 26, a total of 1166 teachers under the banner of ANATAG-2015 initiated a sit-in protest at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima demanding regularization of service.

However, after a period of ‘silent treatment,’ the mode of protest was changed to an indefinite hunger strike on the fourth day on September 29. A total of 73 ANATG members volunteered for the  hunger strike which continued till the agitation was called off on October 7 following a meeting with government officials during which a five-point resolution including the formation of HPC was adopted.
