HM calls for end to protests

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 9 (MExN): As CAB was being discussed in the Lok Sabha today, Shah appealed for an end to protests in the North East. Shah stated that appropriate exceptions have been made to ensure that its regional identity is protected. "All concerns have been addressed. We are protecting the social and linguistic uniqueness of the North East people. Nobody needs to fear it," Shah said. "We have had enough. The protests have to end now."

The Union Minister was referring to the ongoing protests in the region, including the North East Students Organisation's called an 11-hour shutdown on December 10 against what it claims is an attempt to nullify the Assam Accord of 1985. The protesters have also termed the legislation as an "attempt to rob the Northeast of its identity".
