Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): An honourable political settlement between Government of India (GoI) and NSCN/GPRN is the need of the hour for lasting peace in the sub-continent, the NSCN (IM) today stated, while further re-asserting “Nagalim flag and constitution are non-negotiable.”
In a statement issued against the backdrop of September 12 consultative meeting which reportedly resolved for elevating the Indo-Naga political talks to at least level of a senior Union Minister and appointment of an interlocutor.
In a press release via its MIP, the NSCN (IM) stated that during the 27 years of political negotiation NSCN had shown remarkable endurance, a testament of Naga leadership for peaceful resolution of Indo-Naga political conflict that span more than seven decades.
During the process, several consultation meetings of the NSCN (IM) and the Naga Civil societies and tribes were held, it recalled.
Among other meetings, on January 21, 2002, in Hebron, the Naga people resolved and mandated the NSCN/GPRN and its leadership to seek an honourable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue based on the uniqueness of Naga history and situation, and through peaceful means, it added.
Further, it noted that the unwavering support of the Naga people has strengthened the political negotiation so far and the NSCN (IM) and its leadership are grateful.
Subsequently, , it highlighted that historic Framework Agreement (FA) of August 3, 2015 has been officially signed in the presence of high-ranking dignitaries including the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and General Secretary/Ato Kilonser Th Muivah, NSCN (IM)
In the agreement, the GoI duly recognised the “unique history and sovereignty of Nagalim,” it added.
Appreciating the difficulties of India, the NSCN (IM), also “agreed to work-out ‘new relationship of peaceful co-existence of the two entities’ based on sharing of sovereign powers that are concluded from political negotiation,” it asserted.
Accordingly, it implied that the NSCN (IM) was ‘realistic enough’ in understanding the dynamic of political negotiation needed for seeking honourable and acceptable Indo-Naga political settlement.
To the end, it conveyed that the Naga people are not demanding “anything from GoI but only saying to respect and recognize what ours is in as much as we respect and recognise what is yours.”
“This is the truest of all precepts. Nagalim flag and constitution are non-negotiable, as these are constituents’ parts of sovereignty,” it added.
