Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): The Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN) State Branch conducted a health and medical camp at Yongpang village in Longleng District on October 14, 2011. More than 500 persons from Yongpang, Sakshi and neighbouring villages received free medical treatment and medicines during the camp.
A press note issued by Zakie Kire, General Secretary, IRCSN stated that Libanthung Lotha, Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, was the chief guest of the inaugural program of the medical camp which was chaired by YB Angam, Honorary Secretary, IRCS Longleng Branch. Speaking at the inaugural programme of the medical camp, the Deputy Commissioner stated that such free medical camps are a blessing for the people in remote areas and commended the IRCSN for taking the initiative to hold free medical camps in remote areas of Nagaland. He also asked the people to maintain a healthy lifestyle and protect their environment. The DC further stated that developmental funds for the Village Councils and the Village Development Boards will be strictly monitored and asked the villages to cooperate with the Administration for development of the area.
Zakie Kire, in his keynote address, stressed that the Red Cross is a humanitarian organization which has no boundaries and is committed to help the sick, the needy and the vulnerable people at all times. He also said that the members of the Red Cross seek no personal gain from the humanitarian services rendered and called upon the people to come forward and join the Red Cross movement. The IRCSN also donated Rs. 5,000 to Yongpang village.
The note mentioned that during the trip it was also found that the main road leading to the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner, Longleng has been cut off due to landslide and a detour had to be taken. The IRCSN feels that this should be brought to the notice of the state government and the issue should be addressed at the earliest by concern department as it is for the common interest of the people, particularly in Longleng district.
