Mokokchung, December 18 (MExN): There is no sign of electricity being restored in the Ao Baptist Church Council (ABAM) Mission Centre, Impur. The only power transformer at the centre went kaput about a week back after the oil ‘leaked’ out machine. The transformer has been repaired, but it is learnt that the transformer oil which is vital to operate the machine is not available in the market. Residents at Impur are going through a difficult time with no power during this festive season. Though some residents are using inverters which they charge during the day in the nearby towns and villages, most residents burn candles and lamps to keep some light in their homes.
A resident at Impur disclosed that the lineman at the centre is on leave. The department is waiting for the transformer oil to be allocated from the Doyang Hydro Project, but it is uncertain when the oil will come. She disclosed that the ABAM would have to buy the transformer oil, if the department cannot avail the ‘free’ oil from the DHP. The transformer oil is said to cost around Rs 120 in the market.
Power department officials could not be contacted for more details. Nonetheless, with Christmas just around the corner, the pilgrim centre of the Ao people is expected to remain in the dark, if the precious transformer oil remains unavailable to power department.
