KOHIMA (MExN): Good news for students in the state. At last, the load of pursuit for higher education outside the state in the absence of engineering or medical colleges in Nagaland would soon reduce with the proposed establishment of the Institute of Management and Engineering in Nagaland.
The Ministry of Human Resources Development has agreed to the state’s proposal for the establishment of an Institute of Management and Engineering in the state, Nagaland University vice chancellor, Prof. GD Sharma told a workshop here today. Around 80 crore rupees will be involved for this institute, it is learnt.
At present, Nagaland is the only state in North East that does not have a medical or engineering college. It does not have any management institute either.
“The absence of avenue for these technical streams in the state has translated into greater focus on non-technical streams and outflow of students to other centers of learning,” the Nagaland Human Development report said. It has also resulted in inadequacy of trained manpower in the state on one hand, and high levels of educated unemployed on the other.
Out of 24,000 students in the state pursuing higher education, nearly 10,000 students were studying outside the state, the report said.
