Incessant rainfall on the night of August 28 and early morning of August 29 caused flooding in several houses across different locations in Dimapur.
Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Saturday issued a weather advisory for all districts of the state from August 30 to September 2, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain in several areas and appealing to residents to remain cautious.
According to the advisory issued by the NSDMA under Home Department, a high alert has been sounded for Dimapur and Mokokchung on August 30, with thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain expected in Dimapur, while Mokokchung is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall.
Chümoukedima, Longleng, Meluri, Mon and Tseminyu districts face a thunderstorm and lightning risk the same day, while Kiphire, Kohima, Noklak, Phek, Shamator and Tuensang are likely to receive light rain. Niuland, Peren, Wokha and Zunheboto are expected to see light to moderate rain.
On August 31, moderate to heavy rain is likely over Meluri, Niuland and Wokha, while Longleng and Shamator are not expected to see any active weather warning. Scattered light to moderate rain has been forecast for Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mon, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu and Zunheboto, with Mokokchung and Tuensang likely to receive light rain.
The advisory said moderate to heavy rain is likely on September 1 over Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Meluri, Mokokchung, Niuland, Noklak and Wokha, while Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mon, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu and Zunheboto are likely to receive scattered light to moderate rain. Tuensang is expected to see light to moderate rain.
For September 2, the NSDMA has flagged a thunderstorm and lightning risk for Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto, while Niuland is not expected to see any active warning. Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Noklak, Phek and Shamator are likely to witness light to moderate rain, and Kiphire and Meluri may see scattered light to moderate rain.
The authority advised the public to regularly monitor weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal, and to follow official advisories and exercise caution during thunderstorms and rainfall.
Motorists were also advised to exercise caution while travelling, particularly along vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches, the advisory issued by the Home Department, Government of Nagaland, said.
