Dimapur district emerges group champion

The 13th edition of Under-14 Inter-District Catch Them Young Tournament concluded on Friday here at Indira Gandhi Stadium under the aegis of Department of Youth Resources & Sports.

The two-day long tournament witnessed sporting disciplines such as Badminton, Table Tennis and athletics such as 100m, 800 m, long jump, shotput for both boys and girls.

A total of 48 medals were given away during the tournament.

Dimapur district emerged as the group champion of the tournament with 11 medals. (Five gold, three silver, three bronze) followed by Peren district with 8 medals (4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze) and third by Mon district with 6 medals (three gold and three silver).

In the closing ceremony, DYRS director Akumla Chuba graced occasion as the guest of honor and gave away prize to the winners.

While appreciating the efforts taken by the participants, she hoped that the experience they get through the tournament will encourage them to get better, stronger and faster.

She also asked the participants to keep practicing so that they can take it professionally.

In this regard, the director urged the students to focus, train and strive for the best.

The director also have invited the qualified athletes to avail the academy training at Dimapur if the players wants to venture into sports academy.

She said the interested participants can inform the DSO for necessary arrangements.

A total of 205 participants including 89 boys and 78 girls from 12 districts took part in the two day sporting event.
